All octoport furniture is produced entirely of carbon to make it light and durable. But what is carbon actually?
Carbon fibres are fibres about 5 to 10 micrometres in diameter and composed mostly of carbon atoms. Carbon fibres have several advantages including high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion. These characteristics have made them very popular in aerospace, motorsports and yachting. To produce a carbon fibre, carbon atoms are bonded together in crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fibre as the crystal alignment gives the fibre a high strength-to-volume ratio – making it very strong for its size. Several thousand fibres are bundled together to form a tow which may be used by itself or woven into a fabric.
For the upholstery octoport uses only use high-quality fabrics which are all wind, (salt)water and sun resistant. Octoport was founded in 2017 by Arun Maheswaran with the aim of producing the highest quality design deck furniture for superyachts. Behind the brand is a team of experienced designers, draughtsmen and engineers who have been involved in yacht building for many years and are familiar with all the requirements.
The company has its headquarters with an integrated showroom in Bremen and thus at the centre of Germany’s megayacht industry with short routes to all shipyards in Europe.
